Jin’talks – Caldari Navy Hookbill & Vigil Fleet Issue

Hello everyone, I’m back with another solo PvP guide where – despite Mr Hyde’s threats of cruel and unusual punishments – I’ve forayed back into the mix with a pair of lesser used frigates, fit for use by the fast approaching Alpha avalanche. As with before, I stuck to a little theme, with them both focusing on utilising the offensive control of dual webs to either keep the enemy at arm’s length, or keep them uncomfortably close as they’re rocketed to oblivion. All clips shown were done with no links and in Factional Warfare space, so you’ve got no excuse to not go out and try them!

Scourge Rage Rocket x1000
Scourge Javelin Rocket x1000
Caldari Navy Scourge Rocket x1000
Nanite Repair Paste x100

The Hookbill is the first ship shown, and an absolute monster when you can land those double webs and throw out the pain with heated rage rockets. As explained in the video, people expect you to be the archetypical armour-duel fit, and bring a pair of people to fight you, which this fit perfectly equips you to handle. As long as you pick and execute your fights well, you can get a nice tally of killmarks, with my personal record being nine kills before going down.

Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters II

Warrior II x3
Quake S x100

Republic Fleet Titanium Sabot S x100
Nova Rage Rocket x1000
Nova Javelin Rocket x1000
Caldari Navy Nova Rocket x1000
Nanite Repair Paste x100

The VFI is the second ship shown, and has a more nuanced, dancing approach, staying tantalisingly out of reach of the enemies as it uses it’s long range weapons to rain hell down onto them. Fly fast, fly smart, and be bold. It makes for nail-bitingly close fights at times due to its light tank, but no other ship can do what it does.

About the author

Jin'taan

Jin'taan has had a long and somewhat varied career in EvE, starting just after the release of Tyrannis and pretty much never stopping. Currently he resides within CVA and the Providence region, having considerable experience with both FCing and (poorly) solo PvPing under their banner.

I fly the VFI a little different, though it looks like with a similar engagement approach:

    [Vigil Fleet Issue, TEST]
    Small Armor Repairer II
    Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste

    1MN Afterburner II
    Warp Scrambler II
    Stasis Webifier II
Small Capacitor Booster II, Navy Cap Booster 400

Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket
Rocket Launcher II, Caldari Navy Nova Rocket
250mm Light Artillery Cannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S

    Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
    Small Bay Loading Accelerator I
    Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I

    Hobgoblin II x3
    Republic Fleet EMP S x500
    Caldari Navy Nova Rocket x1000
    Nova Rage Rocket x1000
    Nova Javelin Rocket x1000
    Nanite Repair Paste x100
    Navy Cap Booster 400 x19

With the incoming PG changes, I’ll be able to get a 280 Arty on there. I think the difference between ours is that mine local tanks significantly more and is tronger against MWD ships, wheres yours doubles down on AB vs AB engagements.

Your using T2 modules, Alpha Clones cannot use tech 2

I love the Navy Hookbill idea, however, this fitting no longer works. Replacing one transverse bulkhead rig with a CPU rig provides enough CPU, however, it puts us at -50 calibration.

As an alternative (also replacing hull tank rigs with shield rigs), try this fit:
    [Caldari Navy Hookbill, pvp Jin]
    IFFA Compact Damage Control
    Crosslink Compact Ballistic Control System

    Initiated Compact Warp Scrambler
    1MN Afterburner II
