From the Rig 2

As is well documented, I am currently sat on an oil rig in the middle of the North Sea. What you may not know is that Jeg is currently in the process of moving house. Between these two distractions, CZ has been looking rather bereft of content of late so I thought I would try and alleviate the situation with another From The Rig piece, where I pull together a wee grab bag of thoughts and opinions on what’s been going on in Eve over the past few days.

So war began the day before I left for this here fine oil rig. I always miss all the fun! The good news is that it looks like the fighting will still be continuing by the time I hit dry land next weekend. The not so good news is that for the first time in a very long time, CFC aren’t getting things all their own way. Systems and moons have been exchanging hands at an alarming rate but what started as a customery CFC ~steamroll~ has quickly swung the other way. At best I would say the war is currently in the balance but I don’t think it would be unreasonable to conclude that the balance of power has slipped marginally towards TEST and their allies.

Before we go any further, I want to take slight umbridge with Mittens’ latest CEO update posted on TMdc here. This quote stood out:

‘Despite my absence, we had taken the northern section of Fountain sov, captured 21+ TEST R64s, and did this in the face of an increasingly large hostile dogpile as NCdot, PL, and N3 all vowed to come gangbang us, with Black Legion and 401K doing as much damage as they could in our backfield.’

(My emphasis)

Let’s not beat around the bush here, up until the moon rebalancing brought about by Odyssey, nullsec had been a pretty boring place for a long time. Between HBC (RIP in Peace) and CFC, the blue doughnut problem was prevelant. I’m not going suggest one entity was worse than the other but there’s no doubt that both sides had blued up large numbers of allies due to stale game mechanics. For the CEO of the CFC to accuse anyone of dogpiling seems a little disingenous but hey, ~narrative~.

One of the key indcators that things aren’t going well is losing systems and supers back home. Unfortunately, it is now common knowledge that two Gents’ CSAAs were coathangered by the combined forces of BL/401K/PIZZA. Kesper North has confirmed that those two CSAAs contained a baby Bus and a baby Nyx. The baby Nyx belonged to Zebra Corp. What some of you probably don’t know is that it also contained the minerals for a second Nyx. As a corporation working hard towards a goal of getting our first Titan, losing the equivilent of two Nyxes is a sore loss. It’s going to be interesting seeing how things develop from here on out. My guess is that given the drop in value of the region, Gents’ may be moving from Vale in the long term. Where we’ll end up will be decided by the spoils of war and our part in attaining them.

Especially seeing as BL are now taking some of the delicious Tech ISK from CFC to stop fucking around in Tribute and Vale. The details of this contract are murky. Some suggest the contract is simply to stop them harassing us up north in the aforementioned regions. Others suggest the contract is to have them actively attack TEST in Fountain on a strategic level. Mittens’ CEO Update doesn’t make this very clear either way. What we do know is that PIZZA are pissed.

Then we have the Reddit civil war which has sprung between Poetic’s other home, Fweddit and the bastion of all that is TEST, Dreddit. I think a lot of TEST had just presumed that Fweddit would join up with TEST in the battle against the CFC. When they announced they would be getting involved assisting Goonswarm in friends, I think a few people were rather surprised.

This is developing into a very interesting war indeed. It’s the first time I can remember both sides getting what appears to be good fair fights with plenty of chest-beating on specifics all round. It’s a strange war but one which isn’t going to run out of legs any time soon. Will BL swing the balance? Will PL come in and take decisive action either way? Do TEST have the ISK and the legs in the long run? It’s going to be fun finding out.

Some of you may be expecting me to discuss the whole Mintchip thing. You know, I’m going to keep out of it. Let’s give her a few months and see how she does before we start flinging shit around like monkeys.

The first CSM8 Townhall is up and live and I highly recommend you all go take a gander. It was great seeing so many of them taking part and answering questions. I do wonder if an hour is long enough with Jester stating that they weren’t able to get round to any live questions. Maybe stretch it out to 90 minutes or 2 hours next time? Then again, there is a lot of organisation involved in these so maybe not. Certainly worth considering.

My only niggle is that the Townhall felt very NDA-y to me. These Townhalls have often been jammed up with ‘sorry, NDA’ style answers with previous CSMs but for some reason it felt even more so this time round. I’m not sure if I am complaining here or simply making an observation.

The next CZ CSM8 interview should be happening on Monday 30th June. I’m not sure which two CSM8ers will be on for that one but I’ve already touched base with Kesper to get it organised.

Between Planetside 2 being confirmed for PS4 and the announcements in the last couple of weeks of Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 (seriously, dat multiplayer trailer), I’m pretty confident in saying that Dust 514 is fucked. Looks like Metacritic agrees too. The diagnosis is bad Doctor…

You guys all remember the King of Low Sec competition held by CCP a few weeks back and the hoohah afterwards when Snuffbox thought they had won but PL were announced winners, yadda, yadda, yadda. In the end, they were both announced as joint winners. Seems a PL member located in Iceland wasn’t too pleased about this and decided to take action…

In other news, it’s looking likely that we may have some very exciting news to announce in the not too distant future on Crossing Zebras merchandise. I know heaps of you are dying for a CZ t-shirt or bag or whatever. Details are still being hammered out but we’ll have something to announce in the not too distant future – probably by CZ27.

And I think we’ll knock it on the head there. Feel free to pop comments below on how I am tragically wrong about everything discussed above. I am due back on dry land a week tomorrow so if you want a shout out or something pulled apart in greater detail on CZ27, now is the time to get your requests in.

Fly safe,
