Crossing Zebras Episode 25

The NUMBER ONE PODCAST IN ALL OF EVE ONLINE AS CERTIFIED BY CCP is back! Xander managed to get off the oil rig and spend a couple of hours chatting about all that is happening in the universe that is New Eden. After a series of episodes which have all run long featuring luminaries from Eve politcs, media and CCP themselves, we’re taking the chance to strip things back again to just Jeg and Xander, shooting the shit on stuff that is interesting to us.

There’s a heap of stuff to get through this episode including some very sad news about Lost in Eve, some interesting gossip doing the rounds regarding Jade’s other project, Li3 Federation, we pull apart what has been going on down in Thunderdome Delve, spend a wee bit of time on the ever-evolving metagame in Dust 514 and round things off with a wee mention of the upcoming expansion, Odyssey.

Crossing Zebras Episode 25.mp3

Lost In Eve – The sad news has been announced by Jade that Lost In Eve has finally come to an end after many years of being a key community touchstone. We discuss just how important to the community LiE was and the legacy it leaves behind.

Li3 Federation – …and part of the reason LiE had to come to an end is because of Jade’s involvement with Li3. Some interesting gossip is doing the rounds about how Li3 is changing their financial infrastructure. We discuss whether this is another slip-up in the short but dramatic history of Li3.

Thunderdome Delve – For time immemorial, Delve has been the one place in nullsec where you had a good shot at getting a fight. That is never more true than now as TEST attempt to hold back the combined invading forces of NCdot, GSF and PL continue to bang on the door of 1-SMEB without gaining entry.

The Evolution of Dust 514 – Dust is now out of beta and with some of the changes to the rules including how Planetary Conquests actually work in practise, the world of Eve Online creeps every more darkly down to the planet surfaces. And Dust players don’t appear to be too happy about this…

Odyssey – People have asked us to cover Odyssey at length but it’s been done to death elsewhere by people far more qualified than us. Nevertheless, if you want all the hard facts on the latest Eve Online expansion, I highly recommend you check out this here URL –Β

About the author

Xander Phoena

The good looking, funny, intelligent member of the team, Xander set up Crossing Zebras with Jeg in April 2012 mainly because he was talking too much about Eve on his other podcast. Playing the game for almost five years, Xander still has absolutely zero clue about how to actually play Eve but somehow still manages to talk a good game.

  • Happy Spanners

Really good stuff guys, keep it up.

    • Jeg_Elsker

      Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

  • Yugo Reventlov

    Things I learned:

Rundle Allnighter is the Alliance CEO of Li3.

No seriously, it was good fun again, and due to it being almost 2 hours, you have entertained me on my ride to work AND back home again!

One thing keeps bothering me: Xander sounds as if he’s 2 meters away from his microphone, while Jeg sounds louder and sharper. With my bad ears, I find myself adjusting the volume all the time. Think you could do something about that please?

    • xanderphoena

You’re the second person to mention the Rundle/Jade faux pas! Consider me a dumb-dumb πŸ™‚

Will keep fooling around with the audio balancing. It’s tricky when recording over Skype. Jeg didn’t sound so loud when we were recording. But yeah, I don’t think it sounds awful but I’ll definitely have a play with it before next ep.

      • Yugo Reventlov

Like I said, I might be an exceptionally difficult customer because I have bad ears. I have a hard time understanding people talking with noise in the background. And since I always listen in the car driving on the highway, there is always background noise πŸ™‚

The better you can do on that front, the happier you will make me! Although it’s true that there have been worse episodes. And there are definitely much worse podcasts…

PL run a balanced budget simply because that’s how they roll. If they have 2 tril ISK to spend they will all of it. Likewise with 1 tril ISK.

You can see that atleast 600b was spent on tournaments. That’s a huge chunk of “disposable” ISK? I can only imagine it’s the same with their huge dread/carrier stockpiles which were built with tech money and were a one time (big) expense.

Fuel has already skyrocketed and it will go down when people get the hang of the new mechanics. You also get certain nullsec systems where you can find infinite ice roids. So those will be valuable commodities.

Your comment(or lack of it?) of not being Li3 on TMC made me… lol hard

  • bluntpencil

As much as I would like to listen to this itunes, that piece of dogshit, won’t let me put it on any devices. πŸ™

  • GrouchyOldGamer

Don’t call my beloved EuroGoons gay, you cheeky bugger.

  • Jade

Thank you for the kind comments regarding Lost in Eve’s influence. It’s a much appreciated sentiment.

Now, regarding RUNDLE running Li3…I am growing concerned over your growing obsession with Rundle though. πŸ˜›

As for your assessment of Li3’s (perceived) situation….you will want to be careful what you read and more importantly, what you believe. Not everything is always as it seems. Ulterior motives mate. Ulterior motives. Just keep that in mind. πŸ˜‰

    Good episode…as always.

    • xanderphoena

You are now like the 12th person to pick up on my Rundle/Jade mix up. I am a dumb πŸ˜‰

As for the Li3 thing, I am going to guess the leaked text was accurate. It certainly didn’t look fake but I concede that it may be. And yeah, I get the propaganda thing. I just think that whatever HAS happened, you probably should have done a better job on the whole ~narrative~ thing.

      • Jade

To be fair, that’s interesting insight considering you are not in my alliance. πŸ˜›

As outsiders, it’s easy to make judgements on what is ‘perceived’ to be the case in another alliance, but calling out the ‘narrative to be better’ when the intended narrative was successful within Li3 to achieve what I had hoped is maybe not the most accurate of comments. But in the end w/e….we march on, right? πŸ˜‰

        • xanderphoena

Of course we aren’t in your alliance Jade. The whole point of us discussing it on CZ was to discuss how it looked from an outsider’s perspective. Obviously when going so, we don’t have all the facts. But if we were all only going to discuss a subject when we had 100% of the information, Eve podcasting would be in a very boring place indeed. Regarding narrative, I’d suggest that narrative can certainly be used as a tool to control the rank and file internally but more often than not, it is used as a tool to control the perception from external bodies. Many an alliance has stood or fallen on good or bad ~narrative~ irrespective to how well it has been received internally. See: the whole recent HBC/TEST debacle. I’m also happy to admit that I’m not a corp CEO, let alone alliance so I can only comment on this as a ~journalist~ without your internal insight. Not much I can do about that I’m afraid.
